CWU member Ian from Cathcart Delivery Office in Glasgow is encouraging others to take advantage of union learning opportunities after completing an online Spanish course.
Ian signed up for the course through the support and encouragement of CWU Union Learning Representatives (ULRs), highlighting the important role union learning continues to play in helping members develop new skills, improve confidence and access new opportunities.
The flexible online course allowed Ian to study around work and personal commitments while learning practical conversational Spanish and gaining a recognised qualification.
Speaking about the experience, Ian said:
“The Spanish course I took was very good. The instructor was very patient and approachable to everyone. It was a two hour session which you could do on either a Monday morning or Tuesday evening and you could do a mixture of both if it suited.
I chose the Tuesday from 6pm to 8pm as it suited me best. I holiday quite a lot in Spain and am going there shortly and will ensure to use what I have been taught.
I passed the course which is an SQA Level 4 and I believe a certificate will be issued shortly. The next stage would be to do higher level Spanish.”
CWU ULRs continue to support members across Scotland by helping them access a wide range of learning opportunities, including IT skills, mental health awareness, numeracy, literacy, languages and professional development courses.
Peter Knox, Regional Lead ULR Scotland, said:
“Union learning is about giving members opportunities they may never have considered before. Whether it’s improving confidence, learning a new language or gaining qualifications, these courses can make a real difference both inside and outside the workplace. Ian’s success shows how accessible learning opportunities can help members gain new skills and confidence while fitting around their work and family commitments.”
The CWU remains committed to promoting lifelong learning and ensuring members have access to education and personal development opportunities throughout their careers.
